2004 Summer Institute

The American Republic: Its Creation 1765 - 1815

The Summer Institute launched the Flow of History's 2004 annual theme of The American Republic: 1765 - 1870 with a close-up of the founding of the republic. The institute explored issues related to the formation of the republic through a variety of methods: historian lectures, text-based discussions, and hands-on activities. Guided practice with primary resource materials helped teachers return to their own community to confidently explore local collections. "The American Revolution" by Gordon Wood, "The Minutemen and Their World" by Robert Gross, and a selection of other reading materials formed the core texts.
